The Well-Lopsided Series [Part Two] :: Soul Control

December 11, 2017 | faith, God Centered Mom Podcast, well-lopsided series | 2 comments

"The great spiritual war is fought on the turf of your heart and it's fought for control of your soul." --Paul David Tripp.

That battle, my friends, is why living a "well-lopsided" life is not as simple in practice as it is in theory.

If you've ever wondered why it's so hard to "live rightly", then this episode is for you. We discuss Romans 8:1 and the gift of a choice. Because of Christ's sacrifice we are set free. We are able choose between being led by the Spirit or by the flesh. But on a moment-to-moment basis that choice can feel like a sacrifice of our security and control.

Scripture mentioned:

Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, for the law of Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.”

Genesis 3:17 “Cursed is the ground because of you. . ."

Romans 8:5 “ For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace."

Matthew 26:39 "Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, 'My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.'"

What I chat about:

  • How it's hard to do the thing you want to do.
  • The truth of Romans 8:1, the freedom we've been given.
  • The curse that started back in the garden.
  • How thankful I am we don't have to live under the law of Leviticus.
  • The gift of being a soul that goes between the physical and spiritual.
  • Paul's well-lopsided instructions in Romans 8:5.
  • The example Jesus gave in the Garden of Gethsemane.
  • The temptation to craft and control a safe life with the authority we've been given.

I just had to share this moment I had tonight and thank you so much for this series. I have listened to each of them two times to fully get the meat of what you are saying. I am in a super busy / stressful season this month and especially this week in work and have two boys at him ages 2 and 3. So..ya. Crazy! And my wonderful hubby is my rock and I depend on him so much as a working mom. Well…a lot of things are kind of falling apart at the seams and now my husband is sick…so God and I went on a run tonight – me to discuss all of this and to whine and to pity myself and attempt to control something…anything….by putting one foot in front of the other…and God really brought your talks to mind. He said , “you have a choice, Kayla. Your soul is going somewhere, doing something – that is how you are made. Are you really going to keep pulling it towards yourself or are you going to let it go where it was made…back to Me?” It finally made so much sense what you have been saying about the lopsided soul. Thank you so much for helping speak Gods truth into my craziness and for encouraging moms everywhere!
